About Calatagan Batangas
Calatagan in the province of Batangas is considered to be a third class municipality. This municipality consists of the Calatagan Peninsula amid the South China Sea and Balayan Bay. The peninsula is lined with white sand beaches that have been the preference and common choice of numbers of well off family from Manila as a place for their leisure.
Calatagan has the total population of 51,544 in 9,201 menages. The place has 25 barangays namely Barangay 1, 2, 3, and 4 all are in Poblacion, Bagong Silang, Baha, Balibago, Balitoc, Biga, Bucal, Carlosa, Carretunan, Encarnacion, Gulod, Hukay, Lucsuhin, Luya, Paraiso, Quilitisan, Real, Sambungan, Santa Ana, Talibayog, Talisay and Tanagan.
Historical Heritage of Calatagan
A highly uncommon exemplar of pre-Spanish Philippine script is also in Calatagan. In Tagalog, the script is called Baybayin. This they say was inferred from Japanese writing which turn out to be from Brahmi. This writing is enclosed in a ceramic ware entombment jar in 1200s or 1300s.
It is also in Calatagan Batangas where you can find the historical lighthouse - the lighthouse of Cape Santiago. This beacon safely ushered international transportation vessels that cross the Verde Island Passage, San Bernardino Strait, and Manila Bay during the early days of maritime travel. The Spanish authorities founded this 51-foot tower on top of a cliff in 1890. It was patterned to the medieval mansions in Europe is also called the Faro de Punta Santiago.
Balayan Church, a church now considered as a National Cultural treasure is also found in Calatagan. This church was built under the Indio priesthood guidance. Its interior since 1870 has not changed much in spite of some apparent add-ons.
From Ancient Times to Modern Ones
A number of beach resorts can be found in different barangays of Calatagan. It has the Ronco Beach Resort on Brgy. Bagong Silang, Playa Calatagan in Brgy. Sta. Ana, The Golden Sunset Resort in Brgy, Uno, and the Lago de Oro Resort that is very popular for wakeboarding activities. In addition to these famous places for tranquility, Calatagan also has the Banak House Calatagan, which is an art-filled guesthouse.
Ronco Beach Resort is located about 12 kilometers along Parola Road in Calatagan. This resort is considered a refuge for people who want to experience some tranquil moment in their lives. In this resort, you can indulge yourself in fresh and clean air, exuberant landscapes, and the calming ocean waves. Ronco Beach Resort offers facilities such as boat rides, jetski, snorkeling, trekking, jogging, and other relaxing activities such as Tai Chi, Yoga and cycling.
