Cebu Philippine: Culturally And Historically Rich
Cebu Philippine is strategically located with Negros Island on the East and Leyte and Bohol Islands on the west.
The island is a long constricting island extending 225 kilometers or about 140 miles to the north from its southern side. The place is surrounded by 167 little islands that include Mactan Island, Bantayan, Malapascua, Olango and Camotes Islands.
Cebu City, the capital of Cebu is the most ancient metropolis in the Philippine Islands. It became the Cebu Metropolitan Area along with eight other municipalities and four abutting metropolis. These are the municipalities of Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City and Talisay City.
Cebu city is the main hub of trade and commerce, education, and industry in the central and southern regions of the Visayas. This made Cebu to be one of the most progressive provinces in the whole Philippines. Cebu is famous for its five-star hotels, casinos, white sand and pristine beaches, a golf course of world class in quality, convention centers, and shopping malls. The UK-based Conde Nast Traveler Magazine named Cebu City as the seventh best island destination in the Indian Ocean-Asia region in 2007, the eight best Asian-Pacific island destinations in 2005, and the seventh in 2004.
The native language of Cebu is Cebuano. They also use Hiligaynon and Waray-Waray dialects as well. Most of the Cebuanos are Roman Catholics. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese and other major churches are the living proof for this.
What Makes Cebu Famous
Cebu Philippine is known for its famous industries: electronics and/or electrical equipment manufacturing, computers, metals and precision instruments, chemicals, industrial parts assembly, processing of food, furniture making, manufacturing of fashion accessories, toys and house wares, ready to wear clothing, stone craft, building of ships and mining.
Cebu is popular for being an expert in the field of exportations. Semi-conductor devices, electronic timepieces, components, wire harness, floppy disk drives, photographic equipment, garments, furniture, camera paraphernalia, car stereos, audio-visual equipment, fashion accessories, coconut oil, frozen shrimps, vehicle, and some machinery parts are just some of its export products.
Cebu is economically well off with 50 commercial banks, 27 rural banks, 9 savings banks, 5 government banks and 2 off-shore banks operating on its region. Cebu City has become one of the major cities in the Philippines that are commercially progressive with a blooming economy. Many investors are attracted to invest in Cebu resulting to towering commercial complexes and International airport.
Cebu's largest international port facilities have driven numbers of firms to Asia and other parts of the world with multinational companies to set up production complexes on the most successful business holdings.
Cebu's Cultural and Historical Heritage
Cebu Philippine is very rich also with cultural and historical heritage. Basilica Minore del Santo Nino, the Cebu International Convention Center, Cebu Provincial Capitol, Fort San Pedro, Lapu Lapu Shrine, Magellan's Cross, Magellan Shrine, Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Taoist Temple are just few of the famous landmarks you can find in Cebu.
Cebu annually celebrates numerous festivals and famous of all is the Sinulog Festival. Cebuanos celebrate this festivity every third Sunday of January and this is in honor of the holy image of Senor Santo Nino de Cebu. They also have the Mantawi Festival, Paskuhan, Kadaugan sa Mactan, Virgin of the Rule Fiesta, Kabanhawan Festival and Semana Santa sa Bantayan.
They also celebrate the Fiesta sa Carcar, Nuestra Senora de Regla Fiesta, the Tagbo, Sanayon Agro-tourism Festival, Tres de Abril Celebration, Siloy Festival, Haladaya Festival, Bakasi-Dinagat Festival. These are evidences how culturally rich Cebu, Philippines is.
