Cebu Travel, the island of natural wonder

After Magellan had discovered the Philippines in 1521, the first Spanish settlement was established in Cebu in 1565 and had been under the Spanish rule for three hundred years.

After several centuries of being in the hand of foreign colonies the city had finally enjoyed the freedom in March 1945. Today the city is a fast growing vital business and a leisure destination next to Manila. A long and narrow island located at the center of the Visayan island is also the gateway to the Philippine archipelago. Referring to Cebu travel, it is accessible through sea and air modes of transportations. It has an international port and the Cebu-Mactan International Airport.

* Moalboal Island - It is famous for its untouched and beautiful marine life. Divers can go across the aperture of the Pescador Cathedral an undersea formation that looks like a giant funnel.

* One of the oldest churches in the city is the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral which was completed for about a century because of several interruptions. The first church was built made of wood and bamboo in 1595 and undergone reconstructions.

* Basilica Minore del Santo Nino was built in the exact spot where the image of Santo Nino was founded by the Spanish conquistadors in 1565. This church was founded by Andres de Urdaneta, an Augustinian priest. The image of the Santo Nino de Cebu was brought to the archipelago by Ferdinand Magellan and was given to Queen Juana who was later baptized together with his husband Rajah Humabon into the catholic faith.

The Basilica Minore del Santo Nino is now an important religious and historical landmark in Cebu wherein devotees pay respect and homage to the Holy Infant Jesus.
