Be Captured With The Beauty Of Iligan City, Philippines
Iligan City is situated in the southern part of the Philippines in the province of Lanao Del Norte and the province's former capital. This city is highly urbanized and has the most number of Christians. Locals are combination of Cebuano-speaking people, Maranao, and Tagalog with various dwellers from nearby or far away places.
This metropolis is politically divided into 44 barangays. They are Abuno, Acmac, Bagong Silang, Bonbonon, Bunawan, Buru-un, Dalipuga, Del Carmen, Digkilaan, Ditucalan, Dulag, Hinaplanon, Hindang, Kabacsanan, Kalilangan, Kiwalan, Lanipao, Luinab, Mahayahay, Mainit, Mandulog and Maria Cristina. Other barangays are Pala-o, Panoroganan, Poblacion, Puga-an, Rogongon, San Miguel, San Roque, Santiago, Saray-Tibanga or commonly called Saray by most locals, Santa Elena formerly known as Tominobo Ilaya, Santa Filomena, Santo Rosario, Suarez, Tambacan, Tibanga or Canaway, Tipanoy, Tomas Cabili or the Tominobo Proper, Tubod, Ubaldo Laya, Upper Hinaplanon, Upper Tominobo, and Villaverde. Santa Filomena, Santo Rosario, and Tibanga barangays are further subdivided into puroks or zones.
Tourism in Iligan City
People would know that when one talks about Maria Cristina Falls, they are thinking about Iligan City. There are about 20 waterfalls found in the metropolis and Maria Cristina Falls is just one of them and happened to be the city's famous landmark. This breathtaking waterfall is also the primary source of electric power for most of the city's industries and is being harnessed by the Agus VI Hydroelectric Plant. Iligan City is a home to a number of beautiful and attention-drawing falls. Hence, the city is popularly known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls.
Tinago Falls is another falls that any visitor must not miss. It is situated in the upper part of Barangay Buru-un. This falls takes pride on its curtain-like cascades that finally ends in a breathtaking lagoon. Mimbalut Falls, Abaga Falls, Dodiongan Falls, and Limunsudan Falls are just few of the famous waterfalls that can also be found in the place.
The metropolis is not only famous for its waterfalls but also for some springs. Timoga Springs is known for its cold as ice and clear as crystal, chlorine-free springs that ends into a number of swimming pools of resorts in the city.
Shopping is never a problem when you are in the city. One of the largest Gaisano malls in Mindanao is found in the city Gaisano Super City Mall. Other malls that are also situated in the city are the Old Gaisano Department Store, Trendline Department Store, Iligan Fiesta Mall, Unicity, Squareland Shopping Center, Berds Theater Mall, and the famous Jerry's Shoppers World.
The metropolis is also known for its prominent hotels. It is a home to Maria Cristina Hotel, Elena Tower Inn, Farrah Hotel, Cheradel Suites, and Famous Pensionne House. Other various hotels can be found on the ground of the metropolis as well. Guests can stay in D'Morvie Motel, Casa Royale, or in Celadon Pensionne House. It also has the Lovingly Pensionne House and Citi Best 1 and 2 as drive-in motels.
Proud To Be Iliganons
A number of renowned people from the country hailed from Iligan City and were pure-born Iliganons. Dr. Roberto B. Corcino, the 2008 Outstanding Scientist and Fulbright Senior Research Scholar of Clayton State University in Georgia, USA is an Iliganon himself. Dr. Sergio R. Canoy, Jr., Dr. John F. Sandoval, and Dr. Steven P.C. Fernandez, DFA are from the place also. Hannah Quijano is the SK President who represented the country in the Korea Asean Program and China Asean Youth Camp. Sports enthusiasts such as Romulo Bong Marata and his brother, Ric-Ric Marata are from the city as well. There are other celebrated personalities that gave a number of contributions in the history of the Philippines who actually emanated from Iligan City. And the most popular of them all is no other than the President of the Philippines, Ms. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
