Miss Philippines or Binibining Pilipinas is the most prestigious beauty contest in the country. And the coronation night for the contest is one of the most awaited events in the country. Filipinos love beauty and they love their lovely women and cheer for them on competitions like this one. The winners of Binibining Pilipinas as then sent to international competitions like the Miss Universe contest. Winners of this contest are sent to many international competitions and these international competitions include:

International contests like the Miss Universe pageant is a source of pride and honor for many Filipinos. Many Filipinas had won and made their mark in these competitions. The Miss Philippines beauty pageant is not envisioned by its founders simply as an avenue to showcase the beauty of the Filipina. This beauty pageant was first thought of as a prestigious fund-raising activity of the many projects that will benefit many stakeholders. This event was envisioned to help and benefit the orphans, the indigent families and the less fortunate members of the population.

This beauty pageant is the official franchise holder of the Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines since 1964. The beauty pageant also got the franchise for the Miss International in 168 and in 1992; the Miss World was added to its stable. One of the major movers of the search is Stella Marquez Zawadski or Stella Marquez de Araneta. She was a former beauty queen herself and was the former Miss Colombia who was selected as one of the Miss Universe semifinalists when she joined the competition during her prime.

Miss Araneta was also the first winner of the Miss International beauty pageant which was held in 1960. The organization that supports the search for Miss Philippines is a prolific one, having produced a number of title holders. The organization of the search has produced two Miss Universe winners. The first one was Gloria Diaz who did it in 1969 and the second Miss Universe winner was Maria Margarita Moran who duplicated the feat in 1973.

The organization has yet to produce its own Miss World title holder but it has sent two ladies as finalists of the prestigious beauty search. In 1973, Miss Philippines Evangeline Pascual placed first runner up and Miss Ruffa Gutierrez was named the Miss World second princess in 1993. From 2002 to 2005, the organization's representatives were part of the semifinals. The search for Miss Philippines-Universe or the Binibining Pilipinas-Universe officially started in 1964. This was the time when Myrna Panlilio won the crown. And after the first search, the search for the finest Filipina continued every year and has gotten every year in terms of popularity and the number of participants who are joining the said search.

The selection process is adopted and thru this way, only the perfect representative that embodies the Filipina is chosen. A significant change happened to the organization in 1968. This was the year when the franchise for Miss International pageant was acquired by the organization and Nini Ramos was the first winner of the said crown. For the following year, the crown of Binibining Pilipinas-International was proclaimed along with the Binibining Pilipinas-Universe in just one coronation night. This set the trend for multiple proclamations.

An organization that serves

The organization prides itself as a non-stock and a non-profit organization that will benefit those who are in need in the country. The BCPI or the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated donates all its earnings to some orphanages in Metro Manila which includes day care centers and their moves are often done in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development or the DSWD. The organization and of course the Miss Philippines winners have shown their concern to past victims of calamities. The organization has a history of contributing to aid and relief operations when calamities occur. This goes to show that the real beauty lies in helping others.
