Filipino Food and Recipes Nilagang Baka (Ilonggo style)

Nilagang Baka Ingredients:

1 kilo beef, cut into cubes
3 cloves garlic
1 piece onion
Thumbsize ginger, crush
Lemon Grass
2 Tamarind cubes or 1 pouch Sinigang powder mix
1 kilo jackfruit, sliced about half inch thick
3 pieces Siling Pangsigang
1/2 tsp. pepper
Salt

Cooking Instructions:

1. Sautee garlic, onion and beef. Add salt and pepper. Mix until beef turns lightly brown.

2. Add generous amount of water. Enough to tenderize the meat. (Transfer to a pressure cooker for faster cooking – cook for 30 minutes from the time the knob of pressure cooker starts turning). If the meat you are using is tender, cook over low fire for about 30 to 45 minutes.

3. Add jackfruit and cook for another 15 to 20 minutes or until jackfruit is tender.

4. Add lemon grass. Continue to boil and add Siling Pangsigang and two tamarind cubes or sinigang powder mix.

5. Season to taste.
