. Independent Component Cities. These cities are those that prohibit their voters from voting in the provincial elections. There are five independent component cities in the country and these are: Dagupan, Cotabato, Naga, Ormoc and Santiago.

. Component Cities. These cities which did not reach the requirements are called component cities in the provinces where they are situated.

These Philippine cities can also be classified according to their income in the past three fiscal years. The classifications of these cities are as follows:

. 1st Class with income of 300 million and above

. 2nd Class with income of 240 million or more but less than 300 million

. 3rd Class with income of 180 million or more but less than 240 million

. 4th Class with income of 120 million or more but less than 180 million

. 5th Class with income of 60 million or more but less than 120 million

. 6th Class with income below 60 million
