There are more than enough makers of toys for the big boys these days from the simple motorcycles to cars, to van, to almost all kinds of automobiles. This cannot do away the fact that Suzuki has been one of the pioneers.
The Humble Beginnings
It was founded in 1959 in the Philippines under the management of Rufino D. Antonio and Associates, Inc. They are the ones who dealt with the nationwide distribution of the first Suzuki motorcycles. A joint project between Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. in Japan and Rufino D. Antonio and Associates, Inc. came into existence on July 10, 1975 that made the expansion of motorcycle sales in the Philippines possible under the banner of Antonio Suzuki Corporation.
In 1984, the motor company had been affected with the economic situation following the assassination of then Senator Benigno Aquino. This resulted to the taking over of Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd. of Japan on Antonio Suzuki Corporation. A year after that, the same company in Japan officially launched Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPH) in the country, and it was in 1990 when it finally changed its name to Suzuki Motor Corporation.
From then on, the motor company has been the head of launching new motorcycle models which was widely accepted in the market. Mopeds, scooters, and trial bikes are just few of the first models the company introduced into the market. This brought about the creativeness of the company in coming up with new models to provide the needs of the ever demanding market.
The motor company was the very first to export motorcycle in 1990. It has sent a total of 114 units to Suzuki, S.A. in Guatemala. It has launched to the country different motorcycle models such as the Suzuki X120 or B120, Suzuki X-3 or the GP100, Suzuki X-4 or GP125, Suzuki TS100 ERD, and Suzuki TS125 ERD.
The company was at the peak of its success in exports in 1993. That time, it was able to ship 845 units to different customers in different countries including Guatemala.
October 1999 has been remarkable for the motor company for it is when it took over the automobile operations from then Pilipinas Transport Industries, Inc. This brought about a good impression to the company. And the rest is history.
